On The Web This Week...Grant Wood's Window

While Grant Wood is most known for his paintings, he also designed the Veteran's Memorial Window in Cedar Rapids. The window suffered damage with the 2008 flooding and has since been undergoing restoration work. According to the article "As Repairs Are Made, Artist's Style Is Revealed" by Barb Ickes, the window had 150 cracks. The article describes the restoration process and is very interesting.

As some of you may know, when the window was completed in 1929, Wood received little recognition for this project. Wood had the window constructed in Germany, and the Daughters of the Revolution were so offended by this, they kept Wood from having a public unveiling of the window. The DesMoinesRegister.com Biz Buzz notes that a fitting unveiling will take palce after the completion of the restoration work.
