The Center has had quite a few program and speaking requests lately! I've been giving presentations to community clubs and organizations, as well as in-classroom programs in different school districts. It is definitely fun to go out and speak to these groups and share the history of the painting and the house, as well as tell them about all of the great things we do here at the Center!
Tonight I'm travelling to Iowa City to give a presentation at the Old Capitol Museum at the University of Iowa. The talk is titled: "Going 'Gothic' Again and Again: Grant Wood's repeated references to the American Gothic House and other elements through his work" and will take place at 6:30pm. If you are in the area please feel free to come!
If you are in the Ottumwa area I will also be speaking to the Reminisce Society at the Ottumwa Public Library on Tuesday, April 24 at 10:00am.
And don't forget the "Making Piece" book launch party this Saturday from 2:00-3:00pm at the American Gothic House Center!
