Winter finally arrives at the American Gothic House

Yesterday I found myself outside working in the gardens…in January! Winter took a long time to come to Eldon this year, much so that I and the gardening volunteers were beginning to fret about the flowers popping up early. How it has changed in less than a day! I went from a t-shirt and sunglasses to a sweater, boots, heavy coat, and a hat in record time. With the blowing snow I’m lucky I can still see the American Gothic House from the Center’s window!

Looking outside makes me want to warm up with a nice hot bowl of soup. So what better time to make plans for Grant Wood’s Birthday Soup Smorgasbord! This year will mark the 121st anniversary of Grant Wood’s birth and we will celebrate on Saturday, February 11th (February 13th is his actual birthday) with our annual Soup Smorgasbord. Escape the winter blues and join us at the Eldon KD Center from 11:00am-1:00pm where you can find an array of soups, breads, and friendly company to warm your tummy and your heart. Free will donations for the Soup Smorgasbord will support exhibits and educational activities at the American Gothic House Center. Be sure to mark your calendars now!
